It is our pleasure to welcome you to the 12th edition of the Dynamic Language Symposium (DLS), co-located with SPLASH 2016 in Amsterdam. From Lisp and SNOBOL to Python and JavaScript, Dynamic Languages have been playing a fundamental role both in programming research and practice, and DLS is the premier forum to discuss those languages. Every year, DLS is the place researchers and practitioners go to share research and experience on all aspects of Dynamic Languages.

This year we received twenty high-quality submissions, of which we selected eleven for presentation, covering areas like optional type systems, language design, tools, and implementation. Following the experience from previous years, we adopted a two-round process for reviewing the submissions. The second phase allowed a strong interaction between the authors and the Program Committee, which not only selected the papers, but contributed to improve them.

We are very happy to have Ross McIlroy giving an invited talk about Ignition, a new high-performance interpreter for the V8 engine.

Finally, we would like to thank the Program Committee, the SPLASH organization, the authors, and mainly you, the audience.
